Baby and toddler thermal base layers
Share
With the weather getting colder, we've had several of our customers tell us they're using Stretchaboo baby grows as a thermal base layer for their little one. It makes complete sense, and here is why.
What are base layers?
Base layers are a first layer of clothing worn over nappies but next to the skin. They keep skin warm and dry and are designed to wick moisture away from the body. These layers are especially useful with babies and toddlers as they help regulate body temperature during outdoor play on cold days.
What are Stretchaboo baby grows made of and why are they suitable for base layers?
Our baby grows are made from 95% bamboo viscose and 5% spandex and are a mid-weight 210 GSM (grams per square metre).
What that slightly technical info means, is that our fabric:
1) provides good thermal insulation against the cold
2) is thin enough to fit under heavy trousers and coats as a base layer
3) stretches snuggly over baby's arms and legs to keep them comfortable
4) wicks moisture away from the skin to stop baby feeling wet
Plus with foldback feet on all sizes (plus foldback scratch mitts up to size 6-12 months), keeping your baby or toddler warm is easy.
What else should I look out for when choosing thermals?
The most important thing is to find thin, comfortable material that will fit easily under thick winter wear and keep baby warm and dry. Avoid cotton as it absorbs moisture and can leave baby damp.
